A major problem that I encountered immediately is that Microsoft Office 2007 documents are not compatible with Google Docs. Very disappointing. I know that I can convert my Office 2007 documents into a compatible format, but that is just one more step.
Google Docs would allow me to access my documents for any computer, which is nice, however my schools internet storage website allows me to do the same thing.
However, for my students, Google Docs would be GREAT for group projects! I will definitely be showing my students the advantages of using this resource.

I have Word 2007 also. Because it's still a version that not all people are switching to, I aslo found it a pain to save as all the time. Under Word Options, clicking the big circle where "File" would be, I set default to automatically save as 97-2003.
ReplyDeleteI use Google docs all the time now as a means to access from different computers. Ofcourse with your virtual folder at work you have a similar option. Two differences may be when you want to file share personal files or set up collaborations with read and/or write access with other team members. Google docs really shines then.
I quickly developed a habit of "Save As --> Word 2003" because I was constantly taking files from my personal machine (Word 2007) to the school computer (let's just say, not Word 2007).
ReplyDeleteI feel like my students rely heavily on the school's server to save and store documents, mostly because they don't have home computers to need to bother with flash drives. I'll have to look into GoogleDocs, so they could at least access the docs from a library.
